Witches'
Night Out
by Silver Ravenwolf
Published by Llewellyn Worldwide
For the pagan teen looking
to read a suspenseful young adult mystery, Witches'
Night Out
is a perfect choice. Author Silver Ravenwolf has captured the same
"out there" essence as the popular movie The Craft.
Although neither is an accurate portrayal of the craft, they both pull
witchcraft in as a central theme.
Witches'
Night Out
is a delicious treat for those loving edge-of-seat moments. The
teen characters each have a distinct personality adding to the plot in
some manner. The main young woman, Bethany Salem is described as
...:"a pretty normal 16-year-old, except for one thing...she's a
Witch!" With the second and third generations of neowitches
coming to teenhood today, it's not surprising that the craft has caught
major attention.
On the downside, Ravenwolf
has made full use of the negative stereotyping of witches in general,
pushing the pin on *anti-social* and *magic for revenge* bend that The
Craft did in theatres. So long as one approaches this book with the
foreknowledge that it is NOT an accurate representation, the story is
enjoyable. Unfortunately, not all teens will read this book with that in
mind.
